Solvent Recovery Facility

We provide one of the few facilities in Ireland for blending waste solvents.
Our Solvent Recovery Facility provides an alternative recovery option for much of the solvent waste that is being exported for incineration. Blended solvents can be used as a fuel; e.g. in the manufacture of cement.

Benefits

The principal benefits of fuel blending for the waste producer are:

  • Some wastes previously sent for incineration can now be recovered
  • Where waste is suitable for fuel blending a more cost effective solution is provided

The 20,000 tonne per annum Solvent Recovery Facility is part of the Dublin Port Hazardous Waste Facility. The plant enables waste solvents to be used as a fuel by industry and thus replace the use of fossil fuels.

There is an acceptance area where all waste suitable for blending is checked and categorised. It includes a tanker loading/unloading area where, once analysis of the material has been completed and the test results obtained, the tanker will offload. Once accepted, details of the material are recorded on a computerised tracking system. Laboratory analysis is carried out on the bulk liquid loads to be blended in order to confirm the characteristics of the waste.

The blending facility includes a series of holding tanks and mixing tanks. There are 2 x 75m3 tanks and 1 x 300m3 tanks which are located in a reinforced concrete water-tight bund.
The incoming waste is pumped to the storage tanks via a screening system to remove any solids. Waste solvents are then mixed proportionally in accordance with their calorific value. After analysis the blended fuel is sent to licensed facilities in Bulk Tanks.
